RAWALPINDI:

A trial court handed over three people involved in preparing and selling spurious drugs to the Federal Investigation Agency FIA for a three-day physical remand. The FIA officials requested the Civil judge Rai Liaqat Kharal to extend the three day physical remand to 14 days for further investigation. However, the court stuck to its decision and directed FIA to present them before the court on May 23.

Syed Alamdar Shah, Isreal Masih, and Nasir Gill were arrested from Akhari bus stop, Abid Majeed Road,Tench Bhatta Rawalpindi. The raid was carried out on Wednesday by a special team comprising Drug Inspector Muhammad Sohaib Akhtar in collaboration with FIA, who were tipped off by an informer. About 1000 spurious drugs were recovered in the raid. An FIR under section 23, 27, Drug Act 409 and 109 Pakistan Penal Code was registered after the raid.

The FIA officials said the drug sellers stole used injections from different hospitals of the twin cities, in particular the imported Tinum and Meronum and filled them with harmful substances. They would then sell these injections to drug stores and hospitals.

Talking to The Express Tribune Drug Inspector Muhammad Sohiab Akhtar identified this gang to be working under the supervision of Syed Alamdar Shah. He said that the two imported injections are used against infections and each approximately costs Rs1070.

He said after the preliminary investigation, it appeared that a big gang was operating in the twin cities. However, further investigation was needed to determine this.”The men are destroying innocent lives by making spurious injections and should be put behind bars,” he added.
