Redrawing of constituencies according to census demanded
BNP and HDP hold a joint protest in favour of their demands
QUETTA:
The leadership of both the Balochistan National Party (BNP) and the Hazara Democratic Party (HDP) has demanded redrawing of the province’s constituencies according to the census.
Leaders of the BNP and the HDP held a protest in front of the Quetta Press Club in favour of their demands.
They told the workers present during the protest that their demand was “delineation of constituencies”.
Delineation of electoral constituencies in Sindh completed
“Prior to this census, the census department and the election commission had separated constituencies and delineated them on the basis of population. But quite regretfully, a particular conservative party is breeding discord among the people on this issue.”
The protesters further said, “We have always struggled to promote the rule of law and respect for the Constitution in the country.”
They said, “In Quetta, the delineation of constituencies took place on the grounds of population. As Sariab has a wide-range of congested population, three seats each of national and provincial assemblies should be allocated for the people of Sariab as it is their right.”
They said that difference on the basis of ethnicity and religion 'is unacceptable' and 'inappropriate' in Quetta.
“Once again conspiracies are being hatched ahead of the general elections,” they added.
“We respect the law of the land and its judges. We will consult the courts in favour of our legitimate demands,” said the leaders, adding that their demand was to carry out re-delineation of constituencies according to the census.
