Faisalabad police killed 6 in fake encounters, finds enquiry

DSP, Sub inspector, Inspector and ASI of the said police station arrested.

May 20, 2011

A judicial inquiry into two similar ‘encounters’ by Faisalabad police has determined that the two incidents in which six people were killed was fake.

On October 26 and December 5, 2010, the Faisalabad police in Punjab claimed to have killed six youths in, what it claimed, were ‘police encounters’.

However, protests by the civil society forced the government to order a judicial inquiry.

The report by Judicial Magistrate - Shehzad Aslam Chaudhry released on Friday described both encounters as fake. Both these so-called encounters took place in Jhang Market Police Station's jurisdiction.

It has held DSP, Sub inspector, Inspector and ASI of the said police station as guilty.

The report says the police have been reduced to a mere tool in the hands of influentials.
