HYDERABAD: An officer of the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (HMC), who raided a spice factory while posing as a food official, tendered apology on Saturday in a court for his offence. HMC officer Tauheed Ahmed admitted his mistake before a first additional district and sessions judge and assured the court that he would desist from such a misconduct in the future.

The petitioner, Babu Irshad, through his counsel advocate Farhad Abro, pleaded that Ahmed raided his spice factory and seized material worth hundreds of thousands of rupees. He alleged that Ahmed also issued threats of further action.

The lawyer informed the court that the petitioner checked in writing the official status of Ahmed with the HMC, which denied that he was incharge of the corporation's food section.

Responding to a legal notice served by Abro, the government food laboratory in Hyderabad clarified that Ahmed had not been trained in food checking.

The petitioner requested the court to order the registration of an FIR, however, the court accepted Ahmed's apology and, later, Irshad also withdrew his petition.

Ahmed formerly headed the anti-encroachment cell of the HMC.
