Urwa Hocane hits back at Swara Bhaskar for calling Pakistan 'a failing state'

Urwa's response comes following Bhaskar's remarks: 'What do you expect from a state that's run by Sharia Laws?'

The Veere Di Wedding actor Swara Bhaskar is under hot waters after a video of her calling Pakistan a 'failing state' has gone viral.

In an interview with Indian film critic, Rajeev Masand, the actor talked about the recent ban on her latest offering, Veere Di Wedding, which also starred Kareena Kapoor Khan and Sonam Kapoor.

In response to her 'politically incorrect' statement, Urwa Hocane hits back and slammed the Bollywood actor's comments.

"Pakistan is the country that you, Swara Bhaskar, referred to, in 2015, as the 'Best country you have ever visited' and it has only gotten better in the last few years in every aspect along with when it comes to having bigger hearts and welcoming our guest," Hocane wrote on Twitter.

Hocane further added, "While you’re on this spree of empowering women, I must say you’ve become a bitter person. And all of this is odd coming from a citizen of a state that bans their own films i.e. Padmaavat, so let’s not talk about women empowerment."

"This only reflects on you as an ignorant person, who is also quiet contradictory in her own statements," the Rangreza starlet further added. "It’s not a failing state for sure, but you come across as a 'Failing Human Being!' From the citizen of the Phenomenal Pakistan," concluded Hocane.

While talking about the ban on Veere Di Wedding in Pakistan, Bhaskar had said, "For some reason I have to keep answering for that. I don't know why people think I'm a spokesperson for the Pakistani government. What do you expect from a state that's run by Sharia Laws?"

"They're a nonsecular state. I'm not surprised at all. Why should we hold up Pakistan, which is a failing state -- I don't understand why we keep taking pleasure and feeling a sense of self-worth from all the silly things that happen in Pakistan. Apologies to all my Pakistani friends right now. Rest assured, Pakistanis have way worse vocabulary than we do. I know," she added.

Ironically, Bhaskar's another video where she previously commented about Pakistan has resurfaced. The actor, seen sitting with Mohsin Abbas Haider, in a local show, Mazaaq Raat, had quite contradictory thoughts about her neighbouring country back then.

"My friend and I came here and found that the state which is often viewed as the enemy state, is absolutely not like that at all. The amount of love we have received here. I have travelled to a lot of places, London, New York, Paris, Istanbul, they are all nothing compared to Lahore," she had said when she came to visit Pakistan three years back in 2015.

Twitter schools the actor after her contrasting comments.
