Gastro patient dies at Sheikh Zayed Hospital
Doctors advise people to avoid unhealthy food and drink

A man died of gastro while several others remain hospitalised due to dysentery and vomiting in Rahim Yar Khan on Friday. The gastro epidemic is spreading like wildfire as 32 patients, including 17 children, have been admitted to various health facilities of the city.
Officials told Express News that 65-year old Ramzan Ali, a resident of Kot Sabzal, was admitted to Sheikh Zayed Hospital after being infected by gastro. However, Ramzan succumbed to the infection just hours after his admission despite all efforts to save him.
Gastro patients admitted at various health facilities included one-year-old Abdul Qadeer, 10-year-old Rehan Ali, Nine-year-old Arsalan Ahmed, 25-year-old Rubeena Bibi, 13-year-old Raheela Bibi, 32-year-old Muhammad Shahid and others.
The patients were undergoing treatment in various hospitals and health facilities in the city.

Meanwhile, doctors at the hospital told Express News that the consumption of unhygienic food, drinks and contaminated water are major causes of such infectious diseases. They said the majority of patients fall victim to these ailments due to the extreme heat and use of contaminated water.
They advised people to take precautions and avoid the intake of unhealthy food items and drinks.
The health department’s official record reveals that at least 193,117 patients suffered from gastro during 2017. All the patients were admitted to government-run hospitals in Faisalabad, Lahore, Multan, Bahawalpur, Chakwal, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Jhelum, Kasur, Khanewal, Layyah, Mandi Bahauddin, Narowal, Okara, Pakpattan, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Sheikhupra, Toba Tek Singh, Vehari, Bhakkar, Chiniot, Dera Ghazi Khan, Jhang, Lodran Mianwali, Muzaffargarh, Nankana Sahib and other cities.
The highest number of patients suffering from the disease was reported in Lahore followed by DG Khan, Sheikhupura, Multan, Bahawalpur and Faisalabad.
