LAHORE: The Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) took their grievances against University of Sargodha (UoS) Vice Chancellor Dr Ishtiaq Ahmed to Punjab Governor Rafique Rajwana on Thursday.

During the meeting on Thursday, FAPUASA officials met the governor and requested he direct the UoS vice chancellor to stop discriminating against the teaching faculty. This was revealed in  a statement issued by the association.

The delegation consisted of Central President Dr Kaleemullah Bareech, Punjab Chapter President Dr Javed Ahmed, Federal Chapter President Dr Shehzad Chaudhry and others.

Officials briefed the honourable chancellor about Dr Ishtiaq Ahmed’s ruthless attitude towards senior faculty members, the statement read.

FAPUASA goes on week-long protest today

“Teachers have been locked out of their offices, while some have been terminated without being provided an inquiry or a personal hearing,” it detailed. “In addition, some of them have also been threatened, while others have been suspended on fabricated charges,” the statement added.

FAPUASA claimed the teachers were discriminated against because they dared to point out the wrong doings of the vice chancellor and supported a writ challenging his appointment.

“An assistant professor was suspended after he supported an application, submitted to the Chief Justice of Pakistan, challenging the VCs appointment,” the statement revealed.

Further, a senior dean, who was also a member of the UoS syndicate, was suspended for availing casual leaves.

The statement said that the Chancellor listened to the FAPUASA leadership with patience and showed concern on all matters. He promised to resolve these issues on top priority, the statement added.

Earlier during a press conference, the FAPUASA leadership issued a warning to the vice chancellor about his misconduct, giving him until Eid to mend his unscrupulous ways. FAPUASA threatened a countrywide movement, including UoS faculty members. It warned of widespread demonstrations until Ahmed was removed from his post as vice chancellor.
