Qualcomm has introduced XR1 chips made specifically for augmented reality and virtual reality devices.
The chip will be somewhat cheaper for companies to build an entry-level version of the gadgets to go with the chip, reported The Verge.

The first of the AR and VR gadgets using these chips are most likely to start appearing in early 2019.
Qualcomm has said that its current flagship processor, Snapdragon 845 is a far better choice for AR and VR as the XR1 is for more “simpler devices” which includes more gaming experiences.
The XR1 is described as being made for “lean back and 360 viewing” of videos and equipped with “simple controllers” as the chip is still supposed to support 4K display of videos at 60 fps and detect movements.
US reaches deal to keep China’s ZTE in business
Although this development is interesting, it will only get exciting when Qualcomm decides to build chips for high-end devices.
