Dual Offices Case: Contempt plea moved against Attorney General

Barrister Javed Iqbal filed the petition against the president's lawyers including Pakistan's Attorney General.

LAHORE:

A petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court seeking contempt charges against the attorney general of Pakistan for not assisting the court in the president’s dual offices case and four federal lawyers for boycotting proceedings.

Barrister Javed Iqbal filed the petition and submitted that the bench had decided the case in the absence of lawyers representing the president because it had repeatedly issued notices to the attorney general, but no law officer appeared on behalf of the federation.

By not responding to the court’s notices, the attorney general had undermined the prestige of the court and committed contempt, he said.

The petitioner added that counsels of the federation and then deputy attorney general Abid Saqi had also insulted the court by boycotting proceedings.

He asked the court to initiate contempt proceedings against the Attorney General Justice (r) Maulvi Anwarul Haq and the counsels of the federation.
