Appointment of HEC chairman praised
Dr Tariq Banauri appointed as fourth Chairman of Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Monday
ISLAMABAD:
Representative of various academic firms and societies hailed the appointment of Dr Tariq Banauri as fourth Chairman of Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Monday. This includes representatives of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA), Inter University Consortium, Working Group on Higher Education Reforms, academic and civil society circles. They assured cooperation for bringing about positive reforms in higher education sector after review of the issues and challenges being faced by higher education sector during last four years.
Moreover, they expressed appreciation for the decision of the Prime Minister to ensure that the new HEC chief is appointed purely based on merit. They also praised the efforts of search committee for making transparent decision. Furthermore, they hoped that new HEC chief would focus on resolving the problems of Pakistani universities especially faculty related problems which have been prevailing in recent times and would ensure harmony and better relationships with the provincial governments and provincial HECs as per spirit of 18th Constitutional Amendment. FAPUASA monitored the whole process and appreciated the committee for choosing four names based entirely on merit.
