KARACHI: A man and his brother-in-law were killed while his wife was wounded in a firing incident in the Korangi neighbourhood on Sunday.

The suspect who killed and injured the victims surrendered himself to the police. The incident took place in Korangi No 1.5, Sector 33-F within the limits of the Korangi police station.

After being notified about the incident, an extra contingent of police reached the site. Ambulances from different welfare associations also reached the site and shifted the victims to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities and medical treatment.

Officials said that the victims were identified as 27-year-old Naveed, son of Asraf, and 22-year-old Shahzeb, son of Jumman Khan, while the injured woman was identified as Samreen, wife of Naveed. The police said that a man identified as Ejaz was behind the incident. He escaped after shooting the victims but later turned himself in to the police. The incident took place when the victims were sitting outside their home and the suspect opened indiscriminate fire at them.

During the initial course of interrogations, the accused revealed that Naveed and Shahzeb accused him of having illicit relations with the injured woman and threatened to approach the police to have him arrested.

He said that Naveed had given him his pistol and when he returned the weapon, Naveed told him to recite his prayers as he was going to kill him. The accused told the police that he offered resistance during the incident, causing the gun to fire. He claimed it was an accident and that he did not intend to kill anyone.

Police officials believe the accused had an illicit relationship with Naveed's wife and killed Naveed and his brother-in-law with the help of at least three accomplices. The case has been registered while further investigations are under way.
