ISLAMABAD:
At least three people were injured in separate incidents of violence in the capital, police said on Saturday. These ‘attempted murder’ cases were reported from Bhara Kahu, Golra and Industrial Area police remits.

Police said firearms were used in all three cases. A total of nine suspects were booked in all three cases but there were no immediate arrests.

Meanwhile, police said they busted a five-member gang involved in street crime in the capital. Khanna police said they had also recovered a stolen car, two stolen bikes as well as mobile phones and purses which the suspects had snatched from various people.

The bust comes following a series of armed robberies and thefts in the area over the past few weeks. Police said serious measures have been taken to maintain vigilance in order to arrest the gangsters. The suspects were identified as Kamran Aziz alias Bandri, Sharjeel Ishfaq, Yasir, Noman and Ali.

During the preliminary investigation, they confessed to their involvement in various incidents of street crime. Police said three pistols were also recovered from their possession.

The suspects were produced before a judicial magistrate and were taken into police custody for interrogation and completing further recoveries.

However, though the police claim to having busted dozens of gangs in the past few months the menace of auto-theft remains largely uncontrolled.
