Two motorcycle lifters taken into custody in Karachi

Suspects confess to stealing at least 150 motorcycles

KARACHI:
The District Malir claimed to have apprehended on Saturday at least two members of an interprovincial gang of motorcycle lifters. The police also claimed to have recovered over a dozen stolen motorcycles from their possession.

The arrested suspects were identified as Sain Dad and Waseem Hajan. Their arrests were disclosed during a press conference by Malir division SP Abdullah Memon at his office.

SP Memon said that a special police team was formed due to rising incidents of motorcycle lifting, adding that the special police party was deployed in Sumar Goth in Gulshan-e-Hadeed and arrested the two suspects riding a motorcycle.

The police also recovered two pistols and the motorcycle the suspects were riding, which was snatched from the Steel Town area, from their possession.

SP Memon said that the suspects have so far confessed to stealing at least 150 motorcycles, however, the police have recovered only 15 recently stolen motorcycles from their possession. The remaining motorcycles were sold by the suspects in Thatta.

With a criminal background, the suspects were earlier arrested by the Shah Latif police.

A search for four more group members associated with these suspects in motorcycle theft is under way. Cases were registered and further investigation is under way.
