LAHORE:
A woman asked a district and sessions court on Saturday to file a case against her husband for allegedly torturing her.

Petitioner Sughran Bibi stated that she had solemnised her marriage with Razzaq Ali three years ago. They were leading a happy life until her husband started using drugs. In order to feed his addiction, Razzaq would demand money.

When she was unable finance the drugs, he forced her to borrow money from her parents. The petitioner pointed out that she belonged to a financially-disadvantaged background and could not afford to buy drugs for her husband. She added the husband had been forcing her to take money from her parents to feed his drug addiction.

The petitioner said that she went to the home of her parents after the husband had expelled her from their home. However, some family members of his house pacified the matter.

She told the court that her husband threatened to kill her in case she did not fulfill his needs and provide money for drugs. She said that even the words of the prominent members of her family failed to have an impact on him.

She added that the husband even threatened to sell her if his demands were not fulfilled. Sughran Bibi added that she even visited the Ravi Road police station, but the officials paid no heed to her plight. She prayed the court to direct the SHO concerned to register FIR against the husband. However, the judge sought a reply from the SHO.
