Chinese delegation keen to work with Sindh govt on KCR, solar panel projects

KARACHI: Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has said that his government was working hard to launch the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project, but it has been delayed due to some reasons. However, he vowed it would be taken up in the next tenure.

This he said while talking to an eight-member Chinese delegation led by Yuan Jun, the president of Norinco International. The other members of the delegation were Wang Xiaobing, the company's vice-president, Cui Dongjian, the deputy-general manager of Rail Transit Department and others.

The CM was assisted by Planning and Development Minister Saeed Ghani, Planning and Development Chairperson Mohammad Waseem, Principal Secretary to the CM Sohail Rajput and Transport Secretary Saeed Awan.

The CM said that KCR has been included in China Pakistan Economic Corridor project. Its feasibility report and necessary approvals from different forums of the federal government have been submitted to the Chinese authorities for necessary action, he said, adding that the project was scheduled to be kicked off in December last year, but was delayed due to certain reasons and now it will start after the new government takes over.

Karachi Circular Railway: a project with many benefits

The visiting delegation showed interest to participate in the tendering process of the KCR project and offered to work with the Sindh government in installation of solar power panels. The CM welcomed the offer and urged them to install a plant for manufacturing solar panels in Sindh.

In the meeting, development of the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone project was also discussed and the CM offered the Chinese delegation to work with the Sindh government. The CM urged the delegation head to submit their proposals to the planning and development department for further necessary action.
