QUETTA: The three big tube wells supplying water to major areas of Quetta are out of order for the last one week, causing hardships to the people.

As no step has been taken to fix the tube wells, people are at the mercy of the tanker mafia. Taking advantage of the situation, the tanker owners are demanding more money.

'City area people ready to take to streets over water shortage'

According to details, three tube wells installed in Mariabad are out of order causing suspension of water supply to major areas of the city for the last one week.

The places where water supply is completely suspended are; Liaquat Bazaar, Prince Road, Masjid Road, Art School Road, Thana Road, Pir Abu Alkhair Road, Sarafa Bazaar, Jamaluddin Afghani Road, Sharea Iqbal, Fatima Jinnah Road and Archer Road.

According to sources, the tanker mafia has jacked up the prices to Rs4,000 to Rs5,000 per tanker as against Rs1,500 to Rs2,000 being charged earlier.

No step has been taken to fix the tube wells, they added.
