PESHAWAR: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government on Monday retracted the notification under which the provincial assembly was supposed to meet on May 22, according to reports. This is the third time that authorities in K-P have postponed the assembly session.

Earlier, the government had already changed the dates of the assembly session, which would be the last session of the incumbent assembly before it completes its tenure on May 28.

First, the K-P law department had issued a notification for the summoning of the assembly session on May 3, then the department withdrew it and issued another notification for May 14, but the session could not be held and May 22 was notified as the new date of the session, which was withdrawn today.

K-P chief minister house spokesperson Shaukat Yousafzai told media that the session was postponed due to the busy schedule of the lawmakers, and added that a new date will be announced soon.

On the other hand, the opposition members said that the government is running from the session as it cannot enter the house due to its weak strength.

PPP lawmaker and former minister Ziaullah Afridi called the withdrawal of the notification as "unconstitutional". Afridi has also submitted a resolution of no confidence against the speaker Asad Qaiser.

K-P Assembly: Govt annoyed by ECP’s ban on developmental schemes

The K-P government could not present the budget for the fiscal year 2018-19, whereas all other provinces and the federal government have presented their budgets.

The PTI government had earlier claimed that they are deliberately not presenting the budget since they consider it a right of the next government.

However, it later agreed to present the budget when it obtained an assurance from opposition members to support the government in passing the budget, but the opposition backtracked from its words and the government had to withdraw the notifications of the session.
