RAHIM YAR KHAN: A four-year-old girl was attacked and injured by stray dogs in Rahim Yar Khan on Sunday.

Residents told Express News that Sajid Mehmood’s four-year-old daughter Rabia Bibi, a resident of Mehmoodabad Basti, was playing outside her house when stray dogs attacked her. As a result, she suffered severe injuries and was taken to a hospital while she was unconscious.

Residents said that stray dogs had been roaming in the area for some time and had bitten many children in the past. They added the people had lodged several complaints regarding the attacks but the district health department had turned a deaf ear to their complaints.

They also demanded the government register a case against the district health department officials and take action against them for their negligence in controlling the increasing dog bite incidents.

When contacted, the deputy health officer gave assurances that stray dogs would be killed and no such incident would occur in future.

Earlier, a five-year-old girl was mauled to death by stray dogs in Bahawalpur. Rescue officials said Aashiq Rasool’s five-year-old daughter Bushra was playing outside the house along with her sisters when stray dogs attacked her. As a result, she suffered severe injuries and was shifted to the health centre in Feroza for treatment. However, she could not survive and succumbed to injuries.
