Gems and jewellry: Minister directs reconstitution of PGJDC
Minister aims to make the company operational and fully functional entity.
ISLAMABAD:
Federal Minister for Industries and Defence Production Chaudhry Parvez Elahi on Wednesday directed the concerned officials of the ministry to reconstitute the Board of Directors and Chairman of Pakistan Gems and Jewellery Development Company (PGJDC) within one week after consultation with all the stakeholders.
It is essential to make the company operational and fully functional entity, he said while talking to the officials of the ministry, adding that immediate measures should be taken in this regard.
Earlier, talking to a PGJDC delegation, the federal minister said the Ministry of Industries aims to facilitate PGJDC for exploiting the country’s natural resources. He said, “Pakistan has rich resources of gems and stones and we need to come up with an innovative strategy for proper utilisation of these resources.”
The delegates were of the view that Pakistan had more deposits of stones than India, and said the gem and stones industry had huge potential and scope for exports.
