Suspects in Naqeebullah murder provided case copies
Public prosecutor says he has been receiving threats
KARACHI:
During an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) hearing on Saturday, main suspect SSP Rao Anwar and others were provided case file copies in the Naqeebullah Mehsud murder case. Case prosecutor Ali Raza did not appear on Saturday and sources claimed that he had been receiving threats.
Anwar was presented before the court along with other accused on Saturday. DSP Qamar submitted his bail application during the hearing, on which the court issued the notice but the public prosecutors refused to accept it.
The judge remarked that it was surprising that the public prosecutors were not accepting the notice. I earlier wrote to the high court that staff and public prosecutors must also be sent case files, said the judge. The court then gave copies of the case file to the suspects.
Prosecutor Raza was absent during the hearing. According to sources, Raza has been receiving threats and he says he cannot appear in the case. Other public prosecutors appeared on his behalf.

The hearing was adjourned till May 28. After the hearing, the judge questioned Anwar, however, the former policeman just said my lawyer will tell you what happened. He also avoided the media's questions.
The petitioner’s lawyer told the media that Anwar is the only suspect in the whole country booked in a terrorism case and still living at his own house. No notification declaring the suspect's home a sub-jail was presented to the court, he said, claiming that the government is facilitating Anwar. The lawyer went on to say that neither Anwar nor the police expressed concerns about his safety.
The accused is already at his home and is still asking for B-class facilities, lamented the lawyer.
Anwar's lawyer Amir Mansoob said the hearing on the B-class plea will be held next week. The petitioner’s lawyer challenged the notification of Anwar’s confinement in a house in Malir Cantonment’s Multan Lines.
