Elahi claims Mayo Hospital’s surgical tower

Says Shehbaz came to power in 2008 and didn't allow the project to become functional

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) Senior Central Leader and former deputy prime minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi said that he had started surgical hospital at Mayo Hospital in 2006 and the project was almost complete at that time.

"Shehbaz came to power in 2008. Since this is a project of the Elahi government, he would not allow it to become functional," he said. He added that under his negative mentality, Shehbaz stopping funds for the state-of-the-art surgical tower.

"He allocated funds for the metro train instead and kept playing with the lives of patients for a decade. Thousands of patients’ lives could be saved had the surgical tower become functional on time."

Elahi said that Shehbaz should tender an apology to the nation for keeping surgical tower closed for ten years.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Elahi said that Shehbaz was not ready to make the surgical tower functional even now. "Credit goes to Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar who took a suo moto notice of the miserable conditions of hospitals in Punjab. The chief justice also asked why mega health projects, like the surgical tower, are not being allowed to become functional."
