10 cops awarded for action against ‘anti-social elements’

IG Temuri says crackdowns against drugs and ‘immoral activities’ continues

ISLAMABAD: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Dr Sultan Azam Temuri on Friday awarded ten police officials for their brilliant performance against criminal elements and effective crackdown against drug pushers, gamblers and those involved in ‘immoral activities.’

According to details, a total of 381 persons were arrested during the current year for their involvement in what police called was ‘immoral activities’ after registration of 68 cases against them.

There were 175 males and 206 females involved in the cases. During the corresponding period last year, six cases were registered besides the arrest of 48 suspects including 30 males and 18 females.

Moreover, 512 cases were registered against 606 drug pushers after their arrests during the current year while 160.089 kg hashish, 19.920 kg heroin, 775 methamphetamine, 14 tranquilising pills, 2.5 kg opium and 12,592 wine bottles. During the corresponding period during last year, a total of 302 cases were registered after arrest of 328 persons while 81.490 kg hashish, 12.310 kg heroin, 380 gram opium, six tranquilising pills and 2,915 bottles of wine were recovered from them.

Capital to get model police stations

Islamabad police registered a total of 36 cases after the arrest of 264 gamblers during the current year while 17 cases were registered in the last year after the arrest of 147 gamblers.

49 cases have been registered during ongoing year against 147 sheesha smokers while 50 sheesha smokers were held during last year after registration of nine cases against them.

A total of 1,398 suspects were held for their alleged involvement in anti-social activities. IGP Islamabad called ten police officials at his office and awarded them for their effective performance against anti-social elements during the last 21 days. Those getting first positions included Tarnol police Sub-Inspector Muhammad Iqbal , Sub-Inspector Shehbaz, ASIs Nawazish Ali and Azkar; second position was secured by Sub-Inspector Amjad Ali, ASIs Haider Ali, Akram while Inspector Gulzar Ahmed, ASIs Zulfiqar Ali and Nadeem bagged third position.

IGP Islamabad Dr Sultan Azam Temuri expressed appreciation for the overall performance of the officers and directed them to accelerate efforts against criminal activity and anti-social elements.
