Komal Rizvi's version of 'Aietbaar' will take away your faith in music
Meddling with classics should be a cardinal sin
KARACHI:
Singer Komal Rizvi, known for her songs such as Desan Da Raja and Washmallay from Coke Studio, has released a brand new track. Unfortunately, it's not exactly her best work to date.
Komal Rizvi set to make Hollywood debut
In an attempt to create a mashup of Junaid Jamshed's (JJ) iconic Aietbaar and Evanescence's My Immortal, Rizvi has ended up making what many would deem a disaster. Her vocals are, indeed, on point but her version of Aietbaar is nothing short of unnecessary.

Rizvi has rephrased the original lyrics as well. But meddling with a track as melodious as Aietbaar should be a cardinal sin. You don't do that to JJ - not to his music, no! Sorry Rizvi, but it seemed like a disgrace to the late singer.
Komal Rizvi releases ‘Tu beh gaya’
However, amazingly enough, Rizvi has done quite a decent job with My Immortal. From the tune to the pronunciation, every part that borrows from Evanescence's song is very close to the original. Even the video that takes slight inspiration from the original - with a desi touch - isn't all bad. Not a lot of Pakistani singers can cover Western songs well but somehow, Rizvi has.

But then again, why ruin a classic like Aietbaar? The song could have been a whole lot better - even excellent - if Rizvi had just focused on singing a cover of My Immortal only.
