HEC extends date to apply for PhD fellowship
Promoting research will lead to national development
ISLAMABAD:
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has extended the application deadline for scholarships under its indigenous PhD Fellowship Programme to May 14.
The HEC has announced Phase-II of the scholarships programme for outstanding Pakistani and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) nationals intending to complete their PhD from HEC recognised universities said a spokesperson of the HEC on Thursday. An aptitude test will be conducted within one month of the closing date to ensure merit-based selection
As many as 5,000 scholars will be sent abroad in Phase-II of the fellowship programme as a part of HEC endeavours to promote higher education in the country, she added. The scholarships are being offered for the academic year 2018-2019 for all areas of study under four main categories including Bachelors/Masters; Masters/MPhil (18 Years, Enrolled); Masters/MPhil (18 Years, Completed); and enrolled in PhD, said HEC Spokesperson.
The basic objective of awarding 5,000 indigenous scholarships is that these locally qualified academics and researchers will improve the research and development potential of both public and private universities. Thereby strengthening the local industrial sector through their research, which will directly affect the socio-economic development of Pakistan, she remarked.
Thus far the scheme has been playing a significant role in promoting research culture in higher education institutions.
