KARACHI: The Witness Protection Programme (WPP) is protecting witnesses and their families from physical harm and intimidation, said Consultant on Home Affairs Sharfuddin Memon while talking to a Social Welfare Organisation delegation on Tuesday.

“The idea to introduce the programme after we noticed people’s reluctance to testify, particularly in cases of heinous crimes,” said Memon. The WPP is designed to encourage witnesses to testify and cooperate with law-enforcement agencies to catch culprits.

Dr Zulfiqar Mirza initiated the programme and the working paper was prepared based on the guidelines given by him, he added.
