‘Security of Hazaras responsibility of state’

GCU organises on campus peace walk to express love, solidarity with community

LAHORE: “Hazaras are peace loving citizens; their security is the prime responsibility of the state,” said Government College University (GCU) Philosophy Department Chairperson Dr Sobia Tahir on Tuesday.

She expressed these views at an on campus peace walk that was held at the varsity, to objective of which was to express love and solidarity with the Hazara community.

Tahir expressed deep regret over the repeated instances of target killing. A large number of Hazara students study at GCU. The faculty, staff and students sympathise with the community and hope such painful events will not be repeated in the future, she articulated.

Interior minister assures Hazara community of security

GCU Faculty of Social Sciences Dean Dr Tahir Kamran led the walk from the varsity’s sports complex to the clock tower while holding a banner bearing the message “give Hazaras the right to live”. He stressed on the need to promote tolerance in society through education.

A large number of students and faculty members participated in the walk, carrying banners and placards stressing the need of promoting peace, tolerance, inter-faith harmony, co-existence, unity and non-violence in society.

The students vowed to stand shoulder to shoulder with their Hazara brothers in times of trial and ordeal. All of Pakistan’s citizens were equal; no one should be discriminated on the basis of colour, creed, race, faith and ethnicity, they chimed.
