The commission also rejected a plea to allocate land adjacent to the Malir River for a weekly Sunday bazaar.

The matter of allocating land for a weekly Sunday market in the area adjacent to the Malir River was also heard. The commission remarked that the land surrounding water bodies in the city is covered with encroachments.

There are illegal encroachments near the drains in Karachi and concrete constructions are made after illegal occupation. Due to the encroachments, the cleaning of sewers and drains becomes an issue, lamented Justice (retd) Muslim. The city is inundated during the monsoon season because the drains are not cleaned, observed the commission.
