The weather turned pleasant after drizzling in different parts of the provincial capital early Sunday morning.
The rain also brought the mercury down and provided much-needed relief to the heat stricken-citizens of the city. Citizens along with their families thronged the parks and gardens of the city to enjoy the pleasant weather.
According to the Met department, the maximum temperature in the city was recorded 39 degrees Celsius, which, dropped down to 22 degrees Celsius after rain. The Met department said that the spell of rain that mainly started Sunday morning will continue in different parts of the country for the next two to three days.
The westerly wave is affecting western parts of the country and is likely to persist over central and upper parts of Pakistan till Tuesday, said the MET officials.
The areas which are expected to witness rain include Lahore, Bannu, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, DG Khan and Sahiwal divisions. The minimum temperature recorded in Lahore was 22-degree Celsius where maximum temperature was 39-degree Celsius.
Heavy winds, rain lash Gujranwala
Strong winds with heavy showers, which lashed Gujranwala City on Sunday, have turned the weather pleasant and significantly dropped the temperature.
According to the details, strong winds surrounded the city followed by heavy showers that helped reduce the temperature which had gone up to 40 degrees Celsius a few days ago.
A large number of people came out of their homes to enjoy the weather as soon as the rain started. Due to the heavy downpour, the weather had become pleasant and people in large numbers thronged parks and other public places to enjoy the cool weather.
The rainfall also brought a sigh of relief for the people of adjoining areas of Gujranwala that were facing a severe heat wave.
However, rainwater accumulated on streets and roads disrupting the flow of traffic. Several cars were stuck in rainwater while workers of the district government were not present to drain out accumulated rainwater from major thoroughfares. Many feeders also tripped that resulted in power outages in different areas of the city.
