Clinton to visit Pakistan for ‘strategic’ talks
Clinton to covey the US government's views on the way forward with Pakistan.
WASHINGTON:
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will visit Pakistan for “strategic” talks following the US raid that killed al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, but no date has been set, a spokesman said.
Clinton “does plan to visit Pakistan in order to have an in-depth strategic discussion about our cooperation and to convey the US government’s views on the way forward with Pakistan,” State Department spokesman Mark Toner said. “She’ll go when she can have those discussions in the right context and with the right preparation,” Toner told reporters. In the past 24 hours, he added, Clinton spoke about her travel plans and other subjects with President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, and Army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.
