LAHORE: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Lahore Dr Haider Ashraf was relieved of his charge on Friday. He served for over three years and nine months as DIG Operations Lahore.

He had applied for an ex-Pakistan leave to pursue an LLM at a university in Canada. The leave was approved on April 20. Ashraf had taken charge as DIG after the Model Town incident when the morale of Lahore Police was at a low point.

The political and departmental development has affected the hierarchy of the command so severely that right after Model Town incident, few such incidents occurred when lower cadre police officials refused to proceed while dealing with demonstrations.

During his tenure, a large number of sit-ins, demonstrations and gatherings took place in the city. A farewell ceremony was scheduled on Thursday night in the honour of Ashraf. Speaking on the occasion, CCPO Amin Wains said they appreciated the relentless efforts of Ashraf for Lahore Police.
