A newly-wed couple made separate attempts to commit suicide, which resulted in the death of the husband in Mughalpura late Wednesday night. According to the police, the 26-year-old, Muzammil, hanged himself to death while his 21-year-old wife, Maria, swallowed poisonous pills to take his life after a domestic dispute. She fell unconscious and is currently being treated at a hospital. The couple, residents of Steel Mill Chowk, tied the knot a few months back, said police, adding that their relationship had soured and they would often quarrel with each other. On the day of the incident, both exchanged some harsh words with each other. Muzammil hit Maria with an iron rod. As a result, she suffered injuries. Afterwards, he locked himself in a room and hanged himself. Later, Maria swallowed poisonous pills. She was taken to a nearby hospital when her condition deteriorated. She is under treatment at the hospital where her condition was stated to be critical.
