One-month count: Over 7,000 check in with gastro

People should use boiled water and ensure cleaning their hands before taking any food

ISLAMABAD: As many as 7,000 patients visited to emergency and OPD of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) with medical complication of gastro and diarrhoea during the month of April. According to hospital spokesman Dr Wasim Khawaja, most of the patients were children and from young age group, belonging to the federal capital and surrounding areas. He said that all affected patients have been provided treatment free of cost. Dr Khawaja said that bacterial gastroenteritis happens when bacteria causes an infection in gut. This causes inflammation in stomach and intestines and the patient may also experience symptoms like vomiting, severe abdominal cramps, and diarrhoea. He said people should use boiled water and ensure cleaning their hands before taking any food.
