No-confidence vote sought against Khattak
ANP parliamentary leader writes to K-P governor
PESHAWAR:
With the ruling party losing its grip over the provincial assembly, an opposition party has decided to go for the jugular, making efforts to force a vote-of-confidence in the house.
Awami National Party (ANP) parliamentary leader in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Assembly Sardar Hussain Babak has written to the K-P Governor Engineer Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, requesting him to ask the provincial Chief Minister Pervez Khattak to seek a vote-of-confidence from the K-P assembly under Article-130 (7) of the Constitution.
Khattak fails to convince CJP over K-P government performance
“Not only the members of the assembly but also the people of the province will be thankful to you for fulfilling this constitutional need,” Babak stated in his letter, adding that the chief minister does not have the support of enough members to hold office.

“This house had elected the chief minister, speaker and deputy speaker in 2013. But unfortunately, due to their flawed policies, they pushed the province into trouble and took it to the brink of bankruptcy,” the letter read, adding, “The chief minister has lost support in the assembly to hold his office.”
Jhagra has already summoned a session of the provincial assembly for May 3 (today).
The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is in a fragile position in the K-P assembly ever since the party’s chairman had accused around 18 lawmakers of indulging in horse-trading during March’s Senate elections. The party had subsequently issued show-cause notices to the lawmakers and warned them of expulsion.
This would leave the party with just 40 members, down from the 68 it had when the Senate elections took place.
Moreover, the PTI’s parliamentary ally, the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), has announced that it will quit the coalition government this week. Losing the seven members of the JI will further shake the ground the provincial government is standing on.
Senate 'horse-trading' claims stoke tension among PTI ranks
Khattak has engaged the JI Ameer Sirajul Haq in emergency negotiations, hoping to persuade his coalition partners to reconsider their decision.
The PTI government has already scrapped plans to present a budget in the assembly given its precarious situation to push through a finance bill — even if it is meant as an administrative bridge until a new provincial government is elected into power.
Moreover, any return to the assembly will see the PTI scramble to save face, if only from its own disgruntled lawmakers.
PTI MPA Yasin Khalil, who was named amongst the 18 lawmakers who allegedly participated in horse-trading during the Senate elections, has already filed a privilege motion in the K-P Assembly Secretariat demanding that the house speaker summon the PTI chief before the house to provide evidence of his allegations of horse-trading against MPAs.
“The members of the assembly in the province are the honor of this house and they represent the people of their respective constituencies,” Khalil wrote in his motion.
