Labour unions stage demonstrations across the world on May day

People across the world marked May Day by staging demonstrations, organising protests and resisting police crackdowns.

The International Workers Day, known as May Day, is a public holiday tracing its history to the American Labour Federation, which came into effect on May 1, 1885.
