The lawyers vandalised the City Police Office (CPO) and assaulted at least one police constable. They also attacked passersby and media persons covering the protest.
The lawyers are protesting against raids conducted by the Faisalabad Police after SHO Malik Warris was assaulted by attorneys on April 28. Reportedly, Warris had brought a prisoner, Shahid, scheduled to be presented before a session court. When he entered court premises, some 25-30 lawyers, including suspect’s brother, Arshad, intercepted the police official and attacked him.
An FIR was lodged against the suspects under section 78 of the anti-terrorism act, section 186 and 382 and section 148 and 149. Acting upon the report, the police raided homes of at least ten lawyers.
On Sunday, the lawyers had announced a strike and protest for Monday [today] at the Zila District Road – which houses district courts, bar council, City Police Office and Deputy Commissioner Office.
