Nawaz became a Mughal emperor, stabbed PPP under garb of friendship: Zardari

Says now he will not even go to paradise with ex-PM

LAHORE: Former president Asif Zardari has claimed that Nawaz Sharif was allowed to form the government so that democracy could continue, but he became a Mughal emperor and stabbed the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) under the garb of friendship after coming to power.

He said Sharif was contacting him again, but “now we do not want to go with him even in paradise”.

Zardari also pointed out that the Constitution was given to Pakistan by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto while “we gave the 18th amendment”. He pledged that the PPP would hold five huge rallies in the next elections in Lahore.

He expressed these thoughts while addressing a meeting of the PPP Punjab office-bearers and potential ticket holders. He said he had decided not to let Sharif form the government in previous elections, but did not go about it just for the sake of democracy.

“Nawaz Sharif is getting the Adiala Jail cleaned but he has no idea that he may end up in Landhi jail or some other place,” Zardari said, adding that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) always left the country bankrupt while the PPP always handled the situation after coming to power.



“Nawaz Sharif may go to any country but we have to live here. He has no democratic mindset as he thinks only of himself while we think of the country,” he claimed.

The former president said when the PPP removed Musharraf from power through dialogue, people could not understand. He said the 18th amendment was passed to stop the designs of India. He alleged that Sharif ran away from the country. “He thinks about his powers and not the country,” he alleged.

Addressing the meeting, PPP Punjab President Qamar Zaman Kaira claimed that his party would give a surprise in Punjab.

“We have prepared a list of expected nominees from all over Punjab and those desiring to obtain a ticket should do so through process,” he said.



Kaira called out to the party stalwarts, saying it was a matter of pride that people were still with the PPP despite tough times.

The meeting was also attended by Chaudhry Aslam Gul, Aziz-ur-Rehman, Aurangzeb Barki and other potential ticket holders.
