The rule of law was subjugated as two traffic wardens were confronted by a retired air commodore and air force personnel at Mall Road in Rawalpindi, according to a report on a private news channel.

According to the report, the traffic wardens on duty were about to fine a woman for a parking violation when Air Commodore (retd) Ziaur Rehman appeared with armed air force personnel.

The situation then escalated, with fiery language being used after the wardens refused to take orders from the ex-air force officer and the other air force men.

Army promises justice in cop beating incident

In the video, after a civilian bystander questions the air force officials’ high handedness, the official approaches him. Another person asks whether the official “was going to attack a civilian”, to which the official repeatedly replies in the affirmative.

The report criticised the retired and serving officials for influencing the rule of law and questioned why taxpayers’ money is been spent on such alleged abuses of power. The report also cited the examples of the martyred Rashid Minhas and the gallant efforts of Air Commodore Sattar Alvi as heroes who brought honour to the Pakistan Air Force, in comparison to what was seen in the clip.

The report also stated that while the air force spokesperson was unavailable, Group Captain Nadeem said that a compromise had been reached. The woman in the car was about to be fined for a parking infraction when she lost her temper, but the dispute reached a compromise, the report quoted the officer as saying.

The report also cited other examples of senior officials punishing traffic police officials for doing their jobs.
