LAHORE: The subcontinent has produced many scholars in the field of literature who are recognised around the world, said renowned historian Dr Tariq Rehman on Thursday. He expressed these views while addressing a seminar on History of English Literature and Language in Subcontinent at the University of Education (UoE). The era of British rule was a golden period for English language and literature; Muslim leaders such as Sir Syed Ahmed Khan contributed a lot towards explaining the importance of the language, he added. UoE Vice-Chancellor Dr Rauf-i-Azam said that teachers and students should study literature along with their majors. He also urged students and teachers to study history without any prejudices in order to unearth the truth. An ideal teacher should possess basic knowledge about politics, sociology, economics, history and literature along with their respective subjects, he articulated.
