Under the rubble: Labourer killed, 6 injured

Locals say he died after the debris fell on him, while he was trying to dig up the south face of the building.

RAJANPUR: A labourer was killed while digging during the reconstruction of an old building.

Locals in Saddar Bazaar said that a labourer died after the debris fell on him, while he was trying to dig up the south face of the building. Six other construction workers injured in the accident were saved by rescue workers.

Digging was underway at a construction site in Saddar Bazaar to make underground store during when the building collapsed and killed labourer Younis. Rescue workers said that the building had collapsed due to a weak foundation.

“The labourers were buried under the debris when we found them. We managed to rescue six people but one didn’t survive,” said Rescue 1122 worker Khurram.  One of the rescued laborers is reportedly in critical condition.
