QUETTA: The seven martyred Balochistan Constabulary (BC) soldiers were laid to rest in their native towns on Wednesday after the funeral ceremony held in Police Line, Quetta.

The bodies were shifted to the hometown by the Police Department. The martyred BC personnel hailed from Dera Bugti, Jaffarabad, Naushki and Bhag.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Muzzam Jah Ansari, Deputy Inspector General Quetta Abdul Razzaq Cheema, government and security officials attended the funeral.

At least seven Balochistan Constabulary men were martyred and as many injured in a suicide attack on Tuesday evening when an explosives-laden vehicle hit security forces’ truck at Quetta’s airport road.

The investigation team formed by the Quetta police, comprising various police departments to pursue the bombings, visited the crime scene for the second day to collect more evidence. Moreover, the First Information Report (FIR) of the attack has been lodged in Counter Terrorism Department against unknown terrorists.

The crime scene at the Airport road remained sealed for traffic on Wednesday as investigation teams collected the remains and DNA sample of the suicide attacker, which has been sent to the Punjab Forensic Lab.

Triple suicide bombings left 15 injured, including eight Frontier Corps (FC) soldiers, when two terrorists attacked security check-point of FC in Mian Ghundi, the suburbs of the provincial capital an hour before the airport road blast.

Seven injured Balochistan Constabulary soldiers are being treated at Civil Hospital’s trauma centre and the injured FC soldiers were shifted to Combined Military Hospital.

“Initial investigations have revealed that two separate groups are involved in both the suicide hits, while CCTV footage of airport road blast would help to hunt down the group behind the attacks,” security sources said.

The back-to-back blasts have sowed fear among the citizens. Security measures have been beefed up across the provincial capital, especially at the entrance point of the city.

“Terrorists have been targeting our security forces for past many years and that has sparked concerns over the security of a common man,” a local person named Muhammad Irfan said.

Mudassir Khan Kakar a local trader said time has come that the provincial government should launch strict operation against terrorists, “We can’t bear more loss of innocent lives.”
