‘Provide clean drinking water to patients, attendants’
Directives issued to heads of medical institutions, teaching hospitals
LAHORE:
Punjab Minister for Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education (SHME) Khawaja Salman Rafique directed the heads of all medical institutions to complete arrangements for the provision of clean drinking water for patients and their attendants on Wednesday.
He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting via video link comprising of all heads of medical universities, colleges, teaching hospitals and specialised healthcare institutions.
He directed that reverse osmosis plants, electric water coolers and dispensers be installed within a week. He also issued orders stating that the heads of all institutions were required to present a certificate to the department in this regard.
The minister also directed that patient’s laboratory tests be ensured from hospitals labs.
All the heads updated the minister on the ongoing arrangements being made for the provision of clean drinking water at their respective institutions.
The meeting also reviewed the availability of free medicine in the emergency departments at hospitals. During the meeting, it was revealed that medicines are being provided to patients 100% free-of-cost in emergency departments.
Health Secretary Najam Ahmed Shah directed that visible sign boards be displayed at the site where water was being provided so as to designate a particular place for facilitating citizens.
Vice chancellors and principals of various universities and medical colleges and medical superintendents of teaching hospitals were also present on the occasion.
