KARACHI: A couple who married of their own freewill was killed allegedly in the name of honour in the outskirts of the city on Tuesday.

The incident took place in Qauidabad within the limits of the Shah Latif police station. The deceased were identified as 24-year-old Sher Amn and 22-year-old Wasima. Police reached the site after the neighbours informed them about the incident.

The police found the bodies and shifted them to Jinnah hospital for medico-legal formalities. Police officials said that the couple hailed from Akakhel and eloped on April 19 from their hometown. They came to Karachi and were residing here in hiding.

Police officials said that the couple took a house on rent two days ago in Madina Colony. The culprits entered their house and shot and killed them before fleeing. Police officials said that a 9mm pistol was used in the incident and empty shells of the pistol were recovered and sent to the forensic division. Police officials suspected that the incident was an honour killing, while the victims' family members and relatives could have been behind the incident. The police registered a case.

Separately, a young man was shot dead inside his house located at Majeed Colony in Keamari within the limits of the Jackson police station. He was later identified as 24-year-old Wajid. His body was taken to Civil hospital. Police officials said that the deceased was allegedly killed by his father, Israel, allegedly over a family dispute.

Police officials said that the suspect responsible for the incident later managed to escape the scene.

The pistol used in the incident was recovered and a case registered, while further investigation is under way.
