A police official told Express News that 35-year-old Sakhawat was travelling on his motorcycle along with his wife Shaheen Bibi, 30, and one-year-old daughter Hijab Zehra. The family was on their way back from Chiniot when their two-wheeler slipped after hitting an object that was erected on the road. A passing truck ran over Shaheen and Hijab, killing them on the spot.
After the incident, the police reached the spot and seized the truck. However, the truck driver fled the scene. The police have registered a case against the driver.
In another incident, a labourer was electrocuted to death while two others were injured in Chak No 560.
Police said three labourers were placing a tent for a wedding ceremony when a steel pipe which they were holding touched the main electricity line.
The deceased was identified as Allah Rakha, while the injured as Adil and Ranjha. They were shifted to a local hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, local residents staged a protest over WAPDA’s incompetence and demanded to fix the dangling main electricity line to avoid occurrence of such incidents in future.
