Upgrading: MCI working to modernise rural areas

Mayor says will improve water supply sanitation

ISLAMABAD: The Mayor of Islamabad Sheikh Anser Aziz has said that the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) is working to modernise rural areas and middle towns of Islamabad in order to bring them at the level of Islamabad city so that the rural areas of Islamabad can be provided modern basic facilities.

He expressed these thoughts on Saturday at the opening ceremony of a model market, a facility where items are available at subsidised rates in Model Town Humak.

He said that an area for a discount market had been decided beforehand for Model Town Humak but for the past several decades no attention was paid to it.

He said that it is now due to the efforts of elected representatives that this market is being opened.

He pointed out that various elected representatives of Humak took interest in this project and today its residents have been provided with this service.

The mayor also said that the government of Pakistan had approved the release of funds amounting to more than Rs10 billion to Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad under the PSDP and these will be spent in accordance with the recommendations of the elected representatives.

He said that MCI has started a project installing a modern cleanliness system in Islamabad city and also in rural areas.

He disclosed that after releasing a tender, an updated system will be introduced for cleanliness in Islamabad.

He added that the system of cleanliness will be improved by working with every union council of Islamabad.

Furthermore, the mayor issued instructions to the relevant departments to overcome the water shortage in Model Town Humak by utilising tube wells and also obtaining water from other sources.

He said that after the foundation of Metropolitan Corporation, the citizens are reaping the fruits.

He said that he will try his best to ensure that every union council makes use of its resources on projects in consultation with its elected representative that will benefit the citizens directly.

Prior to this, Union Council Humak Chairman Qazi Faisal Naeem thanked the Mayor Islamabad saying that the market is now opening due to the efforts of the Mayor for which the residents of Humak are extremely grateful.
