Habib Public School (HPS) installed on Saturday synthetic hockey turf at its school, becoming the first private school in Pakistan to have a full size hockey turf.

Several veteran Habibian hockey players were invited to play an exhibition match to inaugurate the synthetic turf. One of the best hockey players Pakistan has ever produced, Hassan Sardar, and another alumnus Safdar Abbas captained the teams and several former students such as Qamar Ibrahim, Kamran Ashraf, Ayaz Mehmood, Ahmed Alam, Sohail Abbas, and Haider Hussain also attended the event.

The match was preceded by an informal get together where former students and teachers mingled. The match was viewed by 400 guests and media personnel and the veteran players received resounding applause for their sportsmanship. International level umpires including Chaudhry Tanveer Arshad, Shoaib Riffat and Shahid Pervaiz refereed the match.

The next venture to be undertaken at the school is the setup of a fully grassed cricket ground, which the Alumni have agreed to sponsor.
