Record: K-P distributes stipend to 0.4m girls

To ensure they attend classes, the provincial education department has distributed stipend to over 400,000 girls enrolled in 25 districts of the province.
The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Elementary and Secondary Education Department (K-PESED) distributed the stipend in the Girls Stipend Programme (GSP) to ensure the enrolment and retention of girls in government schools.
This year, officials claimed, a record had been set for the fastest ever disbursement of stipends worth Rs1.6 billion.

Stipends, officials stated, had been disbursed to 99 per cent of eligible female students; the highest ever rate of disbursement achieved within the financial year.
Under the GSP, girls studying in grades six through eight in government schools who have an attendance of 80 per cent or more are provided with an annual stipend of Rs2,400. Those in grades nine and 10 are provided with Rs6,000 as stipend every year.
“This timely and highest rate of disbursement of the stipends this year is due to the great efforts of the Education Department, its provincial GSP office and the Post Master General,” K-P Education Minister Atif Khan.
