Shabqadar bomb blasts: Death toll rises to 91
A day after the attack, Shabqadar woke to a mournful atmosphere.
PESHAWAR:
The death toll of Friday’s deadly Shabqadar bomb blasts reached to 91 on Saturday.
A police official of the Shabqadar Police Station told The Express Tribune that the death toll from Friday’s deadly attack has reached to 91, out of which 69 were recruits from the paramilitary Frontier Constabulary (FC). Twenty-six civilians were also killed, while four dead bodies are yet to be identified.
Two suicide bombers had attacked newly passed out recruits of the paramilitary FC outside their main training facility while they were getting into coaches to leave for their homes on a 10-day holiday.
Medics at the Lady Reading Hospital told The Express Tribune that at least 69 of the 109 people who sustained injuries were being treated at the hospital. They said that most of the patients were in stable condition, except two who were being operated upon.
Meanwhile, locals said that Shabqadar woke to a mournful atmosphere on Saturday, as people were still reeling from the devastating attack. Though the main Shabqadar Bazaar was open, there were very few people around and most of the traders whose shops were damaged were trying to repair their businesses.
Authorities also opened the Shabqadar- Matta Mughalkhel Road, where the blasts had taken place.
Most of the deceased have been buried in their native towns.
According to sources, Kohat division suffered the largest number of the causalities as at least 47 of those killed belonged to different parts of the division including Kohat, Karak, Hangu, Orakzai and Darra Adamkhel.
