The city district government of Lahore cleared a 25-kilometre area in all nine towns of the city on the 59th consecutive day of its ongoing operation against encroachments on Saturday.
The town administrations, acting on instructions from the district coordination officer, demolished several shops, platforms and other structures built illegally on public land. First information reports were lodged against the encroachers for raising the illegal structures.
The anti-encroachment teams also seized eight truckloads of different materials. The towns have also been directed by the DCO to monitor areas where encroachments had been removed previously. The administration has decided to set up cart markets in all towns. A specific area will be designated for vendors selling goods from carts so that they do not take up public space on the roads.
