International bookie arrested: Cops finally book ‘Baadshah’

Police officials arrested an international bookie and serial gambler ‘Baadshah’ along with his accomplices on Saturday.

People’s colony police was tipped off that international bookmaker Akbar ‘Baadshah’, wanted by the police in several districts of the province, was currently visiting a house in People’s colony Main Market.

The police raided and seized the records of bookies for the IPL series along with telephone and mobile phones. Police officials also discovered arms from the accused and arrested Akbar Baadshah and his three accomplices.


Soon after the gambler and his accomplices were arrested the police received a large number of phone calls to his cell phone regarding bids for the latest matches.  People’s Colony Police Station House Officer (SHO) Sarfaraz Anjum said that Akbar Baadhshah was one of the most notorious gamblers in the country. “He created a fake persona based on the Shahrukh Khan film ‘Baadshah’ and all of the details on three of his fake ID cards are names and details of Shahrukh Khan characters,” he said. Baadshah told police that he had been sick for a long time and his children had taken over the ‘bookie business’.  His sons have denied any involvement with their father’s business.

Gujranwala CCPO GGhulam Mehmood Dogar, SP Civil line Mubashar Maken said that catching ‘Baadshah’ was a great feat.
