‘Modern training of staff to help reduce crime’

Additional IGP says training programmes will continue to keep police force efficient and active

The Punjab Patrol Highway (PHP) is training personnel in modern policing and contemporary systems to manage highway traffic and reduce crime rates, said PHP Additional Inspector General of Police Amjad Javed Saleemi on Tuesday.

He was speaking at the monthly meeting of the Central Police Office.

Saleemi said training programmes and refresher courses would continue to keep the police force efficient and active. He added that the supervision of these programmes shall be ensured at all costs.

All regional SPs, while briefing Saleemi, said PHP detained 378 proclaimed offenders and 30 criminals who were involved in heinous crimes. At the same time, 103,500 motorcycles with no registration, number plates and documents were confiscated. This number was higher that the 47,347 in March of the previous year.

In this connection, patrolling police have registered 245 cases against antisocial elements. They seized 12 Kalashnikovs, 15 rifles, 136 pistols, 39 guns, 10 revolvers, 2 pump action guns, 4 repeater guns, 6 carbines, 2,615 bullets and 116 cartridges, while 5,278 litres of alcohol, 1.110 kg of heroin and 33kg of hashish were recovered.

The SPs said 304 personnel have completed their training in the first batch of the field craft course, while 348 personnel are under training in the second batch.

Saleemi expressed satisfaction over the best of SP Gujranwala Shujat Ali Rana and SSP DG Khan Gohar Mushtaq Bhutta, while Layyah District In Charge Inspector Sajid Hussain, Mandi Bahaud Din District In Charge Inspector Ijaz Hussain, Gujranwala District In Charge Inspector Mazhar Fareed and PRO Muhammad Gaddafi were awarded cash prizes and appreciation certificates.

He also expressed his dismay over the poor performance of some DSPs and granted them a month’s time to improve. Moreover, he said patrolling police always encouraged officers and officials who displayed good performance at the every level.
